Dr. Sanne Bajwa – ten Broeke
My PhD research was aimed at delineating the phenotype associated with pathogenic variants in PMS2, both epidemiologically as well as molecularly. In this work we showed that PMS2 carriers are a distinct entity among Lynch syndrome patients with relatively low cancer risks and gene-specific molecular hallmarks of CRC. I am currently finishing my training as a clinical geneticist and combining this with working as projectleader of LYNCH-GPS. In this project we study the early stages of colorectal cancer formation in Lynch syndrome patients, with the aim elucidating differences in tumorigenesis between the different mismatch repair genes. I am also actively involved in the scientific community as y-EHTG board member of the European Hereditary Tumor Group.
